The Dr. James Carlson Library was the second of three new libraries completed for the Fargo Public Library System in South Fargo. The new building is located on land donated by the Fargo Park District and provides a shared lobby, community room, and public restroom with the adjacent new senior center. The library has separate circulation, express check-out, and information desks. Daylight is introduced to the center of the space through clerestory windows which is flanked by the Children’s Collections area and the Adult Collections area providing excellent lights for readers. Glass-enclosed study rooms, conference rooms, and teen area are located at perimeter walls which feature floor-to-ceiling windows to highlight views of the adjacent park. This design creates a light-filled, spacious environment well suited to readers and researchers.
