BROOKINGS COURTHOUSE MEMORIAL

On the grounds of the Brookings County Courthouse is a grey and white pedestal dedicated in 1922 to honor the unknown dead. Eight monuments engraved in beautiful pink and grey granite honor Veterans from all wars dating back to the Revolutionary War.

The courthouse was built in 1912 with a Renaissance-style architecture featuring limestone exterior. The interior has been remodeled several times, yet the marble, oak, gold trim and terrazzo flooring have always been preserved. Four of the several hand-painted murals inside represent Obedience, Reverence, Liberty and Justice.
