LESTER MEMORIAL PARK
The Lester, IA, Veterans Memorial honors deceased and living Veterans from the small town and the surrounding area. The memorial hosts a bronze statue, pedestal and gold star.
The pedestal honors the five branches of service along with a soldier’s prayer. The gold star located in the base of the memorial honors the “Gold Star Mothers” – mothers who have lost a child in action.
On site is the familiar statue boots, gun and tags. The military boots represent the final march and final battle. The rifle with bayonet pointed toward the sky signals a soldier’s time for prayer and a break from the war to pay tribute to the fallen. Lastly, the helmet and ID tags represent the identity of the fallen soldier.
