OTOE COUNTY WAR MEMORIAL
Nebraska City has a downtown courtyard with beautifully painted murals. These large murals, created by artist Kent Schwartz, depict men and women in the military, including Rosie the Riveter, Native Americans, a nurse, soldiers, planes, past historical scenes, the American Flag and a boy tending the farm while his father was gone at war. These murals were painted in honor of the men and women and the sacrifices made during war times and peace times.
There are granite pedestals honoring Otoe County Veterans from WWI, WWII, Korea, Middle East and Vietnam who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country. These granite memorials are just outside the Veterans Memorial Building which is undergoing an extensive restoration to be completed on Veterans Day 2022.
