WEST PLAINS VETERANS MEMORIAL
WEST PLAINS, MO

In a hub known for scenic rivers and natural springs, you’ll also find a memorial dedicated to Veterans of all branches of service. West Plains Veterans Memorial can be found in the People’s Park of Howell County, Missouri. Dedicated in 2002, this park honors the names of Veterans living and dead. A Gold Star Mothers section added in 2014 to honor those mothers who lost their Veteran son or daughter in the service. Located in the Ozark Mountains, just two hours east of Branson, this city extends its Veterans recognition beyond the memorial. By partnering with “We Honor Veterans” the city helps meet the needs of the Veterans affected by serious and life-limiting illness with resources at no cost to our servicemen.
Now a thriving city with businesses, tourists and pristine rivers for adventurers, it certainly bounced back over the last 160 years. During the Civil War conflict between the Union (the North) and Confederacy (11 other states), the city was burned to the ground with the entire county devastated. 90% of its’ residents fled the area back then.
